For over 12 generations they have tilled the fertile soils of Long Island. It has been their ability to find new ways to use agricultural resources that has helped them thrive in a rapidly changing world. Although better known for super-sweet corn and family events such as the Fall Pumpkin Festival and Sunday Fun Days, the Harbes Family began a promising venture with wine in 2003.
In 2003 the 5-acre vineyard was planted on a boulder-strewn, south-facing hill near the coast of the Long Island Sound. On the surface is fine sandy loam, but underneath is a layer of rocks and silt, ideal for producing the finest chardonnay and merlot vinifera on Long Island.
With the careful attention of vineyard manager Edward Harbes IV and the expertise of local winemakers, the vines are producing award winning wines which are among the most promising on the North Fork. The Harbes Family strives to capture the best of farm and family and welcome you to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
